Results from Tallahassee Fall Chess Tournament

We had a low turnout for the Tallahassee Fall Chess Tournament, but the ones that showed up had a lot of fun and some very interesting games were played. We had two players preregistered for the Open section and not enough to (we needed at least 5 for the four round event); however, Ben Silva and David Schell hung around and played some casual games.

In the U1800 section we had 6 players plus a house player (thank you Billy Haynie). Bill McTigue and Joe McFadden tied for 1st place and split the prize money. Bruce Froemke won third place. Congratulations to those that won some money and thank you to all that played and came out to observe.

The wall chart from the tournament is below, but you can also view it online at the US Chess website.

  1. Why wasn’t the tourney listed on the USCF tourney calendar? I’m not sure it would have increased turnout but it couldn’t hurt (unless it costs $ to have it listed). Does the Tallahassee Club have a calendar of tourneys? The only repeat I’ve seen is Memorial Froemke. Not sure if I’m interested for one annual tourney. Get some more! 🙂 Preferably when students are in town between Sept. and April.
