  • This is a non-rated 5-round Swiss System tournament.
  • Every player will play in all five rounds and be paired against players with similar scores.
  • Tie-break methods will be used and could include a tie-break playoff round.
  • US Chess Federation pairing rules will be used. Pairings are computer-assisted using WinTD.

  • Each round is G/25 (game in 25 minutes). Each player receives 25 minutes to make their moves. So each round could last up to 50 minutes.
  • If there are not enough chess clocks, then players will have to play their game without a clock. At the end of 40 minutes, the Tournament Director will adjudicate the game as either a win for White or Black or as a draw. A player must be ahead by more than a minor piece (e.g. minor piece + 1 pawn, a rook, 4 pawns, etc.) for a win to be adjudicated (an exception may apply based on the position at the board).

  • Check-in by 10:55 am, or you will not be paired for the first round – EVEN if you have pre-registered!
  • 11:10 am, 12:10 pm, 1:10 pm, 2:10 pm, 3:10 pm (there is no lunch break scheduled, but the food court is nearby and kids can eat between rounds).
  • Tie-break playoffs will be played if/as needed after the last round.

  • Trophies and medals will be awarded immediately after all rounds have been played.
  • 1st through 3rd place trophies to each of the following grade levels: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12.
  • ALL participants will receive a commemorative medal.
  • Top 3 players that are NOT already members of the US Chess Federation will receive a premium membership which includes a 1-year subscription to Chess Life magazine.
