I’d like to thank everyone that came out and participated in the Capital City Chess Championship this weekend. It was a huge success!
We had 12 players compete for trophies and cash prize money. In the end, there were two players at the top of the leader-board with a score of 3.5/4 and they split the combined 1st and 2nd place cash prize of $210. Based on tie-breaks the 1st place trophy was awarded to Dr. Steven Lenhert and the 2nd place trophy was awarded to Richard Kennedy. For third place, there were two players with 2.5/4 and they split the $30 cash prize for 3rd place. The 3rd place trophy was awarded to Hugh Cline who edged out Dr. Daaim Shabazz on tie-breaks.
In addition to the fun everyone was having playing chess, we were able to conduct a little business for the Tallahassee Chess Club. Between the third and fourth rounds we held an organization meeting. We had a lot of great input and discussion. We also elected four officers/directors for a term of one year. Donald Conner was elected to the office of President. Colin Dougherty was elected to the office of Vice-President. Steven Cullifer was elected to the office of Secretary. John Chancy was elected to the office of Treasurer. I will prepare a final draft of the bylaws for everyone to approve.
Here is the cross-table for the event:
